Chapter 14 - A Talk with Good Old Dad
“You know Dad, I’m having a crazy time here on this planet. Living here and surfing these perfect waves almost every day. It’s just amazing.
And looks like I’ve cracked a big one with Mr Crappy Lord. Who ever would have imaged. Good old Crappy, 100 Million Subs. This is crazy right!”
Dad “You’re doing amazingly mate. I know you spend a little too much time in the surf when you should sometimes be at school, but you are cutting the grade. So just keep going.
And Crappy, what can I say. You know your trust fund from YouTube Royalties is getting pretty ridiculous?”
“Yeh! I know right. But I just don’t want anything to change. I was watching “Top 10 YouTuber Houses” just a couple of days ago. Some ridiculous places. But I don’t want that.
Well, maybe I can get my own place closer up the beach and looking over the Northy later on. Might be alright hey!”
Dad “Yeh! I can imagine. Then I’d never get you to school. And the Wop Cop would know exactly where to find you.”
“Good point! Do they have Wop Cops when you go to University?”
Dad “No mate. You are on your own then. No show, no go. But the main thing is to get the practicals done and some required minimum attendance. There are a few “professors” that will get mighty upset if you miss their lecture.
You’re gonna be fine mate. I know you are going to find the way.”
“I know Dad. But something’s missing. I don’t know what it is, but I know I am here on this planet for a purpose. The only time that I am ever really free and right within myself is when I’m charging through those big glass cylinders up the Northy.
Back Beach gets alright too when that NE Cyclone Swell coming in around Christmas.”
Dad “Yeh! I don’t see a real lot of you around then. But certainly know where to find you.”
“Dad!, do you get that feeling when it is raining?”
Dad “What feeling is that mate?”
“I can’t really explain it. Just that when it’s raining, especially when it is hammering down, I just feel so good. It’s like nothing can be done as it’s raining so hard and everything is wet. But I can feel the whole planet getting a big regenerating drink and it just grows.”
Dad was just looking at me smiling and I decided to tell him.
“I want to tell you something Dad.”
Dad just nodded and sat right with me.
“I know I am here for a reason. This planet is amazing and I can feel her. I feel everything growing around me. I feel the grass, the trees, the vibration of the roots of the trees way down below the ground humming full of life and the water travels down and is drank up through the roots and deep into the life emanation of the trees. Every single one of them.
But at the same time I get this sort of a pain and a flash of a nightmare strikes me and I feel helpless. Like it’s too late. Like I had everything right there at hand and missed the moment. And now it is too late.”
Dad just sat there right with me. Both of us in the exact same universe and beads of tears falling from our eyes.
I didn’t have to say anything else. Dad knew what I had just told him and I felt great relief. He is always there for me.
Dad and I spend the rest of the week cleaning up the place and getting packed for a bit of Father Son time before I headed off to the US. Jimmy was going to have to party without me. He should be ok. Seems like we made some good party animal friends at the beach the other day, but they’d have to roll without me. I’ll be back after a good week away with the old fella.
Jimmy Please Behave!!!
