Chapter 20 - The Raid
“Ok! It’s time guys.”
Dad placed his phone in his pocket and walked over to pay the waitress.
“We are just going to stay back a bit and watch ok!.
I was kind of keeping the ace up my sleeve for if they ever tried to snatch you Shane, but Jimmy is family.”
The three of us stood back at the corner near Dad’s car and just outside of the premises.
“Here they come.” Said dad as a government secure van came around the corner. It pulled into the gate and drove to the very front door. The side sliding door facing the entrance.
Two guys in military government psych type uniforms got out of the front and the passenger slid open the side door. Two very heavy Marine Guards stepped out of the door. Both of them armed.
The driver lifted the lapel of his carry bag and pulled out a document. All four walked inside with the Marine Guards close in behind with their guarding, ready stance.
“Let’s see how long this goes for hey! Once they get him out of the hospital and into the van, he is military property then. But if the police get called in, it could be a scene and we may not be able to get him out.”
Dad just stood there with his attention on the front door.
“Come on guys. Out you come.” He spoke silently to himself as he stared at the front doors.
I had never felt so nervous in anticipation. I didn’t ever ask how long we had been waiting for. It seemed like an eternity.
“Here they are! Holy Shit! They’ve got him in a straight jacket, tied down on a stretcher.
They’ve got him. I don’t know if he is ok or not, but they have got him.
“What’s gonna happen to him now dad?”
“Depends on how much damage they have managed to do to him Shane. But he’s in good care now. This is a military hospital and I know the head doctor in there. They will keep him cool and lightly sedated. Give him some space and good food.
He’ll be ok now.”
Dad, Simal and I drove for a few miles following the van. Then the message came through on his smartphone.
"He’s pretty badly beat up mate. But he’s alive and we’re gonna take the best care possible for him.”
"That’s it for us now guys” said Dad as he slowed down and turned back in the direction of home. We’ll go in there later tonight and find out how he is after they have time for an assessment. I have to organise a little bit to get access to the military campus.
Call Jimmy’s mum and let her know we have him.
We drove back, all three of us in silence. I didn’t know what to say. I never thought that the psychs would get either of us. It was always in the back of my mind, but I never believed that they would get ahold of us.
It just didn’t feel that any of this was real at all.
